Every Summer the St. Mark’s youth ministry partners with the Appalachia Service Project (ASP) www.asphome.org . This Christian ministry engages in home repair and house rehabilitation for the people of Appalachia. They seek to make homes warmer, safer, and drier by running many centers throughout the summer which become operating hubs to facilitate these projects.
For ten years more than 155 volunteers for St. Mark’s have made the trip to Appalachia. We build community together as youth and adults drive to an ASP center and work hard to love others and love God. Lives are transformed as we share our gifts to help others.
This trip is open for any student who will be entering high school in the fall, up to seniors graduating in the spring. However, this trip is not possible without the help of committed adults who join in the work of the teens. Ideally, adults are parents of students participating in the trip.
For students who have already gone on ASP and have participated in out March Delta Retreat, there are leadership opportunities on ASP with benefits like small group leadership training, devotion preparation and facilitating, and a reduced cost for ASP.
All students and adults going on the trip should head over here to get all the detailed instructions and forms.
