EAST ASIA
Missionaries: Doug and Elaine Culver; Children: Clara and Colman
Purpose: Evangelism and discipleship among unreached peoples in Asia
Project: Ministry Training Center
Doug and Elaine Culver arrived in East Asia in a “creative access country” as
Strategy Coordinators for Anglican Frontier Missions. “Creative access” is
associated with countries where missionary visas are not granted and any work on
behalf of spreading Christianity is strictly prohibited. The Culvers work behind
the scenes at a training center that is very near the Burma-China border. They
mainly provide money and encouragement to approximately 250 students who attend
the training center to further their education in Christ. The center trains and
educates many ethnic groups in the Christian faith and work, including Lisu (the
largest), Jingpo, Dai, A’Chang, Han, and a few others. All groups continue to
grow in numbers, and the training center wants to continue to support this
growth. To this end, they are renovating a new building to suit their needs.
Project Opportunity: The Culvers appreciate donations to help support teachers
and students. Each three-month semester, the center needs at least $2000 to
provide basic food items such as meat, rice, vegetables, and eggs. The students
and teachers are very poor and don’t expect much in their daily life. How to
participate? Contact Missions Commission representative Mike Zimmer.
