Garden Guild
The Garden Guild at
St. Mark's consists of a dedicated group of volunteers who donate
time and talent towards beautifying and maintaining the church and rectory
grounds and plantings. Members of the guild seek to provide the congregation
and visitors alike with a peaceful and beautiful place to participate in
church activities and enjoy the works of the Creator.
The grounds at St. Mark's include grass lawn areas,
deciduous and evergreen trees, ornamental trees and shrubs, a rose garden,
and both annual and perennial flower beds. There are also stone and concrete
walks, a stone "amphitheater," and a garden sitting area near the
columbarium.
The guild works throughout the year on various projects.
In the spring, flowering beds are cleared and planted; during the summer,
the focus is the maintenance of the lawn and existing plants; during the
fall, leaves are raked and the vegetation is pruned. The Garden Guild also
arranges and coordinates spring and fall Work Days in which the entire
congregation is invited to work an hour or two at a job they might enjoy.
The guild welcomes and encourages new members at any
time.
From the Book of
Common Prayer
Almighty God, in
giving us dominion over things on earth, you made us fellow workers in your
creation: Give us wisdom and reverence so to use the resources of nature,
that no one may suffer from our abuse of them, and that generations yet to
come may continue to praise you for your bounty; through Jesus Christ our
Lord. Amen.
